Horse Adventure Tours

Horse Adventure Tours is a small, family-run riding centre in Vale da Telha, about ten minutes from Aljezur in the Costa Vicentina Nature Park in the western Algarve. Founded in 2017, the business is led by Katya Jäger, a qualified sociologist and riding therapist who has ridden since 2001 and worked as a horse trainer since 2013, alongside her mother Barbara Jäger, who looks after the accommodation side of the business, and assistant trainer Daniel Aguiar, who mainly uses the natural horsemanship methods of Clinton Anderson, with some Parelli and Monty Roberts technique. The yard's horses live outdoors year round and are trained using natural riding methods. They include Anglo-Arab mare Estrela, now retired after two decades of trail rides and lessons, her son Kiran, and younger Portuguese cross mares Kiara, Safira and Fiona. Every horse is checked regularly by a farrier and vet, and training places a strong emphasis on desensitising the horses so they stay calm and reliable across the different activities on offer. Four core services are on the price list: horseback riding lessons for children from age four and adults (EUR 30 for a single 60-minute lesson, with cheaper monthly packages for local residents), riding tours along the coastline, beach and inland trails (from EUR 30 for a 30-minute inland ride up to EUR 380 for a 7-hour sunset ride, with dedicated full moon and sunset options), riding holidays that combine tours, lessons and accommodation over a minimum of 10 hours of riding between September and May, and therapeutic horseback riding, which the business has been certified to offer since 2021 and recommends at least two to three times a week for results. Horse Adventure Tours is registered with Portugal's national tourism register under RNAAT 1923/2017, and insurance is included in the base price of every activity. The yard sits inland from Aljezur's beaches, with rides ranging from gentle inland trails among the pine woods and gorse to more adventurous routes along the Costa Vicentina cliffs and, in winter or around the full moon, along the sand itself.
