The Black Anchor Irish Bar & Grill

The Black Anchor Irish Bar & Grill has been Irish owned since 2007, set inside a distinctive yellow 19th century building on Rua Borda d'Água da Asseca in Tavira's old town, close to the Roman bridge and looking out over the River Gilão. The kitchen serves an extensive menu of home-cooked Portuguese and international dishes made fresh from local ingredients each day, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options throughout. On Sundays the traditional roast takes over: roast beef, roast pork, a mixed beef and pork plate, or roast chicken, all served with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, roast or mashed potatoes and a selection of vegetables, at EUR 14.50 a plate. Sport is a big part of the pub, with HD screens spread through the bar, restaurant and outdoor garden showing football, rugby, golf, tennis and more from around the world. Live music plays regularly in the vine covered Vin Yard garden, with resident performer Gary Vesey on Wednesdays and Fridays and guest performers on Saturdays. The bar pours a broad range of international draught and bottled beers, wines, ports, spirits and cocktails alongside what the team calls the best pint of Guinness in Tavira. The building's three distinct indoor and outdoor spaces, including a riverside esplanade, are also available to hire for parties, day-two wedding celebrations and other private events.
