Almargem – Associação de Defesa do Património Cultural e Ambiental do Algarve

Almargem - Associacao de Defesa do Patrimonio Cultural e Ambiental do Algarve is a regional environmental and heritage organisation founded in 1988, registered with the Portuguese Environment Agency and marking its 38th anniversary in 2026. Based in Loule, it works across the whole Algarve on advocacy for the region's natural and cultural heritage, including protections around the Ria Formosa and management of the Foz do Almargem local nature reserve. The association runs a regular programme of environmental education, guided walks and public talks, such as a guided visit to the Islamic baths and manor house of the Barreto family and a webinar series called Vamos falar de... on subjects like the Algarve's geodiversity. It also publishes reports and BioDossiers on Algarve species and habitats, and features a monthly nature photograph on its website taken in the region's wetlands and countryside.
