Vila Real de Santo António was founded in 1773 under the Marquis of Pombal and built in the rationalist grid plan that still defines the city today. The Setecentista Festival evokes that founding era across three days: costumed performers populate the streets, baroque ensembles play in plazas, artisans work in period style, and themed street programmes bring the 18th century into the 21st.
The festival is aligned with VRSA's municipal holiday (13 May) and is one of the eastern Algarve's anchor shoulder-season events, promoted by the municipality at the BTL tourism fair each year.
